One way to practice Being Here Now is by transitioning our thinking from nouns to verbs. Nouns give us a false sense of security, as if we have and possess this “thing” and therefore don’t need to do anything to “keep” it.
In truth, you don’t have a life, you are simply living, so make sure you are living in accord your deepest values. Likewise you don’t have love, love is an experience, and our duty is to express our love as much as possible.
Along the same lines, a relationship can be thought of as a continual process of relating. And really, “relating” is just another word for communicating. This is why communication in relationships is so goddamn important, because that’s literally the whole point of it!
Day to day, we feel so closed off in our own worlds, our desire for love reflects our desire to reach out and feel a deep connection with another person. The point then is that in order to get close with somebody else, you must start by being honest, by revealing deep truths.
And since you can never completely know a person, you will never be “done” relating with someone. There will always be more to discover. That’s the beauty of it.
